The Key and Microsoft Office 2010
Microsoft® have introduced a new way of delivering and updating Microsoft Office called
Click-to-Run. This delivery method uses the internet to deliver the Office applications rather
than installing them directly to the computer using a disc. More detailed information on
Click-to-Run and how it works can be found at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/click-to-run-introduction-HA101850493.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA101850565.
Unfortunately, one of the issues relating to this new delivery method is that many third party
applications will no longer work with Office, and this includes
the Key. This is a known issue
that is specific to Click-to-Run, and further information on this and other restrictions relating
to Click-to-Run can be found at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/click-to-run-known-issues-HA101850565.aspx?CTT=5&origin=HA101850538.
Microsoft® have recognised this limitation, and provided a resolution in the form of
downloading and installing what is effectively the same as a full disc installation (called
an MSI installation). Details on the process for changing to this version can be found at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/click-to-run-switch-to-using-an-msi-based-office-edition-HA101850538.aspx?CTT=3.
The above information applies only to users of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 and
Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010. Users of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 do not
have access to the Click-to-Run functionality and therefore will not encounter this issue.
Users of Microsoft Office Starter 2010 are not offered an alternative installation method,
and therefore such users will need to upgrade prior to using Microsoft Office with
the Key, or
any other third party application.
Note for users purchasing new equipment / upgrades
Given the above restrictions, it is recommended that any installation / upgrade to Microsoft Office 2010
uses the full disc installation method (MSI) to maintain integration capability with
the Key
(and other applications). It is also recommended that this requirement is communicated to any retailer
when hardware is being purchased with Microsoft Office 2010 pre-installed.
